Do you provide opioids for pain?
Opioids are a therapy of last resort for most types of chronic pain when all other treatment options have failed or proved inadequate. Because opioid therapy involves serious risks including addiction and death from overdose it is not appropriate for everyone. We do provide chronic opioid therapy to appropriate patients after careful evaluation of their history and exam. This type of treatment requires very close monitoring including frequent urine toxicology testing etc.
We follow all local and national guidelines and policies, for example, CDC Guidelines for Chronic Opioid therapy. Accordingly, we generally do not prescribe >89 MME of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain. We also require discontinuation of Benzodiazepines if you are on chronic opioid therapy. Exceptions are only allowed on a case-by-case basis depending on your medical conditions.
